Teaching about New York City

We live in a beautiful area with lots of small villages and a lot of nature around us. My students usually have been to Hamburg or Berlin but not foreign cities. So when talking about New York City they are fascinated to find out I‘ve been there.

We look at photos, talk about things to see and try to get an orientation in this big city. New York City is more than Manhattan? What‘s the difference to New Jersey? And what happened on 9/11? Which by the way was before my students even were born.

They found out that there are more songs about this city than students in class. Maybe more than at out school. And asked if they would like to go there (surprise: they all would) and what to do there then, most reply: “Go to Central Park and enjoy the atmosphere“. They also like to see typical sights such as Statue of Liberty or Times Square.

And as much as they like to talk and learn about N.Y. City they dislike writing about it or their impression of our lessons. Therefore I wrote an entry to this blog myself. It‘s their turn next time. Hope you can wait that long.
